Can we say black girl magic one time. I've never felt more proud to be a black girl that I do at this very moment. Beauty's always come in all shapes and sizes, all ages and color, and lately melanin appreciation has taken over. I somewhat feel like a melanin goddess every time I braid my hair and I try to do them at least once or twice a year...but who's counting. So one of my  YouTube videos recently reached 200000 views *moment of silence to appreciate and give thanks for all the support* and this video was on a braiding tutorial I did some time last year and I decided to answer a few frequently asked questions about box braids.

The process?
Living in Canada, this has to be at the top of the list of frequently asked questions every time I have braids. Every single time anyone sees my hair their reaction is something a little like this "Oh my gosh your hair is amazing. It must take a really long time to do it..pause..so did you do it yourself *person probably reaches over to touch it at this point*"(has that ever happened to you?Well, my braids usually take a day to do (because I normally do them myself) but as I'm growing older, patience and strength to do them myself is running thin so I asked one of my friends to help me out this time around and consequently, it took us about 5 hours to braid the hair (I like my braids super long)

Maintenance?
I keep my braids in for 3 to 4 weeks max because I'm paranoid about people seeing my scalp (I'm not weird at all) so I don't do anything more than moisturizing my scalp during the time I have my braids in, but generally depending on the type of braids you get, you can wash them every 2 weeks and moisturize your scalp. Another alternative would be to use a braid spray (ideal if you want to keep them in for longer as this helps reduce product build up) and others tend to use apple cider vinegar to clean the scalp instead of washing.

What hair to use?
I prefer to use X-pression or X-braid and you can find these at any local beauty supply store.
