Classic red lip

I am channeling my inner Marilyn Monroe today as I rock the classic red lip. I am usually a nude lip type of girl but of late I've been challenging myself to try new things so you'll be seeing a whole lot of experimenting on this little blog of mine. I'm sure if you keep up with beauty news you would know how Kylie Jenner has taken over the lipstick industry. This has nothing to do with this post by the way but I find it interesting that one person would have so much influence in such a short space of time. 

Red lipsticks leave an enticing colour play off against my skin tone. Don't you just love how it looks with my dashiki ? A couple of years ago I would have sworn by "Ruby woo" by Mac but I've fallen in love all over again. The Kat Von D brand is by far one of my favorites to date because their lippies are of good quality, highly pigmented and long lasting although they are a bit on the pricey (well similar to MAC lipstick prices which retail for around $21). I love lining my lips to add a plum pout to my mouth before applying my lippy and my eyeliner of choice is one from MAC. 

Here is a swatch of both the Kat Von D lipstick in the shade Santa Sangre (thick band) and the Mac lip liner in the colour Cherry(thinner band) . Although the lipstick has a matte finish (which is to die for), it doesn't leave my lips feeling too dry or cracky nor does it  easily smudge once it's dry. I wore this lippy for the day and it lasted about 5-6hrs reapplying it. If you were looking for that lipstick to survive your first swimming date, this one is right up that alley. It is completely waterproof and to take it off, I use baby oil and a cotton pad to wipe it off -regular soap hardly does the trick. You can thank me later😉. I love it's packaging and the lipstick is easy to apply. And best of all, I can never lose the lid like I do with most of my other lipsticks.
